pedestrian

My car has hit three people in Charlottesville. Three different drivers, none of them at fault. Why? Because PEDESTRIANS IN THIS TOWN ARE CRAZY!!

Twice in the last week I have come upon people crossing the street at night wearing dark clothes with no streetlights or anything... what is up with that??

Sure, it's nice that the laws here give pedestrians the right of way, but I've noticed, as a driver, that people on foot take that right to the point of flirting with fate, tempting cars to hit them, all the time... and when I'm the one on foot, attempting to cross in crosswalks in a safe manner, even while visibly very pregnant or walking with my infant, that cars don't obey the laws and let me cross.

The experience of the latter makes me incredulous about the former.

And don't even get me started on the dumbasses on bikes who weave in and out of traffic, wanting to be treated with the respect of a two ton vehicle, but showing no respect for the other vehicles on the road...

It's unsafe. All this arrogance with which we move around the city. Maybe this is pedestrian of me, to whine about this. But since my vehicle has been involved in these accidents, I don't think it's too much to ask that if you're on foot, driving a car or bicycle, that you behave defensively, instead of expecting everyone else to move out of the way for you...
